What exactly is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and how could it help you?

Crucially, in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, we look at what you want to achieve (the solution) rather than the problem..

In fact this hypnotherapy can be successful even if you don’t feel able or what to discuss all your problems.

It is a type of ‘talking therapy’, that combines the use of psychotherapy with hypnosis.

It has its roots in Brief therapy which was developed in the 1960’s in response to psychoanalysis taking clients on for years/ sometimes a lifetime.

With your full commitment Solution Focused Hypnotherapy will work  quickly. Sessions are usually on a weekly basis. You will be encouraged to develop a picture of where you would like to be, and each week you will develop and take small steps towards achieving this goal.

What happens on my first visit?

The first visit consists of an initial consultation – this usually lasts around 30 to 40 minutes and involves you explaining why you are seeking hypnotherapy. You will be asked some background and medical questions I can build a picture of you and how you are affected, what you want things to be like in the future and what ‘resources’ you may have to help you get there.

I will then give you an overview of how our brains work, how anxiety can take over our lives and what we can do about it. We will look at how our primitive mind frequently steps in to help us, thinking it is protecting us, how our survival mechanisms have become confused with modern day living.

I will explain how negative thinking creates anxiety and how we manage or in most cases don’t manage our stress levels, the importance of sleep and what happens if we don’t ‘discharge’ our daily events through our natural sleep patterns, as well as looking at the chemicals our brain triggers and the physiological effect these have on our body.

What happens in future sessions?

All future sessions will follow a pattern. This is key to Solution Focused work. The latest neuroscience points to repetition as the best way to form a new way of thinking.

The first half is traditional talking therapy. You’ll be able to see the progress you have made along your own scale of success.

The trance part of each session lasts about 25 – 30 minutes. It’s safe and  relaxed, you will hear my voice but you will always be in control – it’s a pleasant experience you usually drift into a state of focused attention. You may drift gently and, at the end of each session, leave with a calm, relaxed and confident feeling.
